History
Paolino and Michelina in the 1960s would never have imagined that their
garden, away from the "Capri Glamour"would later become the most coveted place for the dolce vita.
A family story of renunciations, sacrifices, and then many successes
Our Story
How it all began
OUR GOALS
A family history, made up of renunciations, sacrifices and many successes.
1960-'70
The Beginning
Between 1960 and 1970, Michelina and Paolino had rented land where they reared rabbits, chickens, pigs and cows and grew fruit trees, grapes, lemons and vegetables. The land also had two bocce courts, where the people of Capri would gather to play and some tourists would stop in the shade of a lemon tree to drink a glass of their grandfather's wine. Grandma Michelina was always ready to cook one of her specialities. In the 1970s came the first successes: everyone went to Paolino's. The licence for the restaurant was obtained in 1976. The whole family was involved in the restaurant business.
1980
The lemon grove
In the 1980s, Capri became an increasingly popular destination. The first yachts anchored in the island's waters and discovered a magical, peaceful island, populated by simple, cheerful people. Thus our enchanted garden, far from the mundane, attracted people and personalities from all over the world. Count Corrado Agusta (an aeronautical entrepreneur) and the Greek shipowner Niarchos loved the game of bowls and organised tournaments and parties at Paolino's. So, at the end of the 1980s, dad Vittorino and uncle Lino decided to buy the land where the most beautiful lemon grove in the world stands today.
1990
The success of Paolino
Later, the first villas on Capri were sold to VIPs and right next door the dear Edwige Fenech bought his villa in the early 1990s. At the time she was Montezemolo's partner and they immediately became friends and frequent guests of Paolino's with many illustrious guests. We remember Tom Cruise, the Agnelli family, Jim Belushi, Schumacher, Quincy Jones, Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, Valentino. We (Michela and Arianna) were little girls at the time, but the sense of hospitality and welcome was 'imprinted' in our souls. As children, we supported and shared the ideals of dad Vittorino and uncle Michelino, known as Lino (Michelina and Paolino's sons), and together we contributed to the success of "Pauline'.
2000 - PRESENT
Pauline Today
Today, as in the past, we welcome distinguished guests such as: Jennifer Lopez, Beyoncé, Sting, Elton John, Leonardo Di Caprio, Julia Roberts, Tommy Hilfiger, Kardashian, Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble, Kitty Spencer, Mary J Blige, Samuel Jackson and Magic Johnson, Puff Diddy, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, Orlando Bloom, Emma Stone, Michael Kors. Stylists, writers, politicians and many others. And they all feel at home. Alberto always dedicates a few songs to him with his mandolin and Uncle Lino sits beside him telling episodes and anecdotes about Capri. Today Paolino is synonymous with Capri, hospitality, eating and drinking well. A restaurant that keeps its tradition and origins intact but adapts to an increasingly demanding and attentive market demand. At our restaurant you can and will always find the dishes our grandmother Michelina used to cook as well as dishes which are a little more fashionable, respecting the Capri and Italian origins in the choice of raw materials.
